Here is a simple yet effective recipe to soothe a cough or sore throat.
Ingredients
One lemon
One decent chunk of ginger
One spoonful of honey
Recipe:
- Use a mortar and pestle to crush the ginger with a few tablespoons of water.
- Squeeze the crushed ginger into a small bowl with your hand using a filter, so you don’t let any pieces through. If you have a juicer or other similar equipment, you could use that to do steps 1 and 2.
- Cut the lemon and squeeze the juice into the same bowl using the filter.
- Add honey and stir well.
Simple as that! Have a spoonful at a time and just let it run down your throat – it’s very soothing. Don’t add anything extra (like alcohol, water, etc.) or drink like a shot, whatever you do.
This ancient Sri Lankan remedy for coughs and sore throats has been passed down for generations. It has also proven to be more effective for our family than cough lollies or syrup.
